Simulation Experience
Clinical time is also spent in the Nursing Arts lab located within the Practical Nursing Department at the Academy, allowing on-site access for practicing basic skills and procedures. Students may also be tested in this lab.
Through a cooperative effort between the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital’s RN Program and the Mifflin County Academy of Science & Technology; a Simulation Lab has been implemented and made available for student clinical experience. The lab is also supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. The Simulation Lab will be utilized during the regular clinical rotation in order to allow students a more controlled environment to perform and practice tasks which they may or may not be exposed to in the normal clinical setting. With the advanced mannequins and equipment available, endless scenarios can be simulated to give the students a realistic practical experience without the anxiety of harming the patient.
Uniforms
Uniforms are purchased during the first days of class and the cost is part of the student’s equipment fees. Each student will also receive the proper equipment in their nurse kit within Term I, such as blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, and other supplies needed in the lab.
